Apple Sales at the Pennsylvania Farm ShowFarm Show Apples

The State Horticultural Association or PA has supported the YGA since its inception.  Now it's our opportunity to give back to SHAP!  We now have permission to sell apples at the Farm Show adjacent to the PA Apple Marketing Board's apple sampling station at the apple displays, which means that visitors no longer have to trek back to the other side of the Farm Show complex to buy apples.  Please sign up for more than one shift, if you can.  We expect a lot of traffic and need as much help as possible.

Feel free to wear a t-shirt or cap with your farm market's name.  For your shift, come straight to the apple displays in the main hall (near the butter sculpture and PDA booth).

Sign up for a shift here. Don't be shy!

Service Opportunity with the Adams County Gleaning Network

Jerry Althoff, owner of Countryside Gardens nursery in Gettysburg, started the Adams County Gleaning Network. The network uses volunteers to pick fruits and vegetables left over in the harvest, and the produce is delivered to local soup kitchens and food banks. Efforts like these help food charities incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables into the diet of those in need.

Althoff thought up the network, which collects unwanted produce from local growers and delivers it to area soup kitchens and food banks, during a recent mission trip with his church. The ACGN is always seeking volunteer gleaners and growers willing to donate food. Any donation is a tax write-off for growers. To participate, email Katie Ellis or phone at 717-334-6271 ext. 331.
